Pre-Apprenticeship Lineman Curriculum

Pre-Apprentice Line Program

Curriculum and Certifications

The lineman program combines classroom teaching with extensive, carefully-planned field training. Students will work with experienced instructors to learn the tasks and skills essential to the trade. Safety procedures are discussed and practiced with each task.

Student LinemanBecause of the unusual credit requirements for this one-semester program, students attend classes 40 hours per week. Individuals should be prepared to attend and participate in courses just as they would a full-time job.

You will leave the Pre-Apprentice Line Program with many skills and certifications!  Some of the certifications and specializations are:

  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) training
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Traffic control (Flagging) Certification
  • Rigging Certification
  • OSHA Transmission and Distribution Certification
  • Poletop and Bucket Rescue
Commercial Driver's License (A) Training Permit

Students will be required to complete the written portion of their CDL-A permit as part of the admissions requirements. However, students who can obtain the written permit in the State of Montana in advance of attending are encouraged to do so. If not, you will only have Fridays to do so and only one month to complete.
