Donate toiletries and other essentials between September 1 and September 11, 2012 and help stock shelves with essentials for veterans who rely on local organizations to get through difficult economic times. Montana Tech and AmeriCorps are encouraging you to donate essentials for veterans. Donation boxes will be located at Montana Tech, Albertson’s, Three Bears, Safeway, Wal-Mart, the Hennessy Market, and Eastgate IGA from September 1 through September 11. On Tuesday, September 11, 2012, volunteers will be collecting the items and tabling them for the Butte Emergency Food Bank and Butte Rescue Mission. This event is to raise awareness of the Day of Service and Remembrance and AmeriCorps programs.

"Every day AmeriCorps members are making a big difference in the cities they serve," said Brian Christianson of the Montana Campus Compact. "The Great Roll Out is an easy way for community members to make a big impact by meeting critical needs." This event was created in response to Congress designating September 11th as a National Day of Service and Remembrance under bipartisan federal law in 2009. Numerous organizations across the country are acting to implement one of the largest days of charitable service in U.S. history.

This National Day of Service and Remembrance is being led by the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency that improves lives and strengthens communities though volunteering and service.
