Students Celebrate with Tester

This past Thursday, Highland College students and other volunteers joined with Senator Jon Tester to celebrate the formal completion of nine homes near Center Street in uptown Butte, constructed in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Montana.

Recognizing the work of the students and the others, Senator Tester said, "It's really pretty impressive...people working together..really helping folks out...helping rebuild communities...making their communities a better place..and help folks achieve the American dream of home ownership."

Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Montana is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing organization. They have been very active in several Southwest Montana counties since they started activities here in 1997. Habitat for Humanity homes are made affordable to local, low income families.

"Helping to build these homes has helped provide our students with a valuable education," said Bill Ryan, Carpentry Instructor and Chair of the Trades &  Technical Department at Highlands College. "But there is so much more than that. Our students are giving back to their community and are working on construction projects that will actually and directly help people. It was a thrill for my students to get to meet Senator Tester and have him see the work we have done."
