Roger Jensen, PhD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award

After more than 40 years of excellence in occupational safety and health, Dr. Jensen is passing his abundance of knowledge to the younger generations. Currently a professor in the Safety, Health, and Industrial Hygiene Department of Montana Tech, he focuses his time on teaching classes in occupational ergonomics, safety, and risk reduction, and guiding students through research and studies on topics like warning signs and stairway uniformity. Dr. Jensen also shares his experiences through books such as “Risk-Reduction Methods for Occupational Safety and Health” and articles such as “Field study confirms the belief that keeping busy helps control room operators sustain alertness during the night shift.”
Dr. Jensen served the U.S. Public Health Service in various positions including as an industrial hygiene engineer, a research industrial engineer, branch chief and chief of the safety controls section. He retired at the rank of Captain in 1991. Other notable positions include visiting ergonomist at the University of New South Wales and senior ergonomist at UES, Inc.

Dr. Jensen prepared for his career by earning a PhD from West Virginia University in 1989, a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1977, a JD from Northern Kentucky State University in 1974, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Utah in 1969. He also became a registered professional engineer in the state of Ohio, a certified safety professional, and a professional ergonomist. To remain updated on developments in his field, Dr. Jensen maintains affiliations with the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society and the American Society of Safety Professionals.
