Different Paths, Shared Destination

Welcome to Montana Tech! Known as "Harvard on the Hill", Tech was founded in 1900 as the Montana School of Mines to fill the growing need for resource managers and engineers - an objective we have stayed true to this day!

However, a lot has changed since then, including our students. Though many of our buildings are a century old, we work to accommodate students with disabilities while preserving historic integrity. Starting in 2026, many of our oldest buildings will undergo much needed renovations to ensure they are accessible to all.

STEM Accessibility

Making STEM subjects more accessible to people with disabilities isn't just a civil right. It increases economic mobility, brings different perspectives to teams and leaders that lead to better solutions, and addresses skill gaps in a world dominated by technology. Students with disabilities are vastly unrepresented in STEM, but it may not be for the reasons you think.

Imagine you are passionate about math, science, or engineering. You love the logic of math, want to study phages to someday cure a disease, or simply want to build a bridge. You know you can do it. You understand the material.

But you find out that pursuing your passion requires you to speak a language you don't speak or use a body part you don't have. When the community members of Montana Tech make their content accessible, we're acting as translators and opportunity givers. When content meets basic requirements per WCAG and the ADA, everyone - and we mean everyone - has the chance to learn and grow here.
