Degree Objective Statement - Personal/Professional Statement ✓
Include a typewritten statement outlining academic and professional goals and how they relate to the chosen field of study.
Official Transcripts ✓
Official transcripts are required from all undergraduate and graduate schools attended. At least one transcript must include evidence of receipt of a Bachelor's degree. Transcripts marked "issued to student" are not acceptable. Transcripts need to be sent directly to the Graduate School Office from the institution. Contact the Registrar at previous schools and request official transcripts be forwarded directly to the Graduate School Office. Transcripts sent from the student are not accepted.
If your undergraduate education took place outside of the U.S., you are responsible for having your transcripts evaluated on a course-by-course basis by one of these organizations:

For full admission, an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above is required.
For provisional admission status, an undergraduate GPA between 2.7 and 3.0 is required.
For provisional probationary status, an undergraduate GPA between 2.5 and 2.7 is required.
For students who have completed graduate work or post-baccalaureate study with a GPA above 3.0, exceptions can be considered.

If reference froms are sent by the applicant, place forms in a sealed envelope with the reference’s signature over the seal (excludes Earth Science & Engineering, Ph.D. See program specific requirements).
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) ✓
GRE General Test Scores are not required for applicants from ABET-accredited or US-regionally accredited institutions. GRE General Test Scores are also not required for any applicants to the Mining Engineering Program.
GRE General Test Scores are required for applicants to the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.
Applicants requiring GRE General Test Scores must instruct Educational Testing Service to submit official GRE General Test Scores to the Montana Tech's Graduate School Office. Montana Tech's School Code is 4487.
Immunization Records ✓
Immunization records of the following are required:
- Rubella
- Measles (two doses of MMR)
By Montana State Law these immunizations are required before registration for all students born after December 31, 1956. This record must include dates of immunizations and a physician’s or nurse’s signature or initials.

English Proficiency (TOEFL or IELTS) ✓
Students who have not attended a college or university in the United States or in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand must provide evidence of English Proficiency. For TOEFL, instruct Educational Testing Service to submit official scores to the Graduate School Office. Montana Tech's School Code is 4487. Minimum scores of at least 78 IBT are required. A minimum IELTS score of 6.5 is also acceptable. The following english proficiency scores are accepted:
Immunization Records ✓
A physician-validated certification on medical stationary, a Montana Tech International Student Health Form, or a World Health Organization Certificate is required showing immunization for the following:
- Rubella
- Measles (two doses of measles vaccine after 1st birthday, including month, day, and year)
- Tetanus
- Diphtheria
- Tuberculosis Skin Test (within the last year)
Each of these immunization records must:
- Be identified on the record in English.
- Have the signature of a physician or registered nurse.
- Include month, day, and year of each immunization.
Immunization records are required before a visa can be requested.
International Statement of Financial Support ✓
The International Statement of Financial Support Form must be completed by you, your sponsor (if applicable), and the bank certifying the funds. This form certifies that funding will be available to cover estimated living expenses during your first year at Montana Tech. All International students applying for admission must provide a certified financial statement showing at least $40,716 (U.S. Dollars). If you are bringing your spouse or dependents, the financial statement must certify an additional $3,000 for your spouse, and $1,500 for each child. Please note that all required dollar amounts are subject to change.
All financial statements and documentation must be official. Photocopies and/or facsimiles will not be processed. Your application will not be processed until an acceptable Financial Statement in US Dollars is received.
Credential Waivers ✓
The admission application fee is non-refundable and cannot be waived.
Credential waivers for other materials can only be considered after you have submitted an official application and identified a potential faculty advisor. Waivers are not guaranteed and are up to the department to decide.
The admission requirements listed on our website are the only accepted credentials; no substitutions will be considered.

- Requires at least two years of work experience and a resumé.
Project Engineering & Management ✓

Petroleum Engineering ✓
- Applicants must provide at least two examples of technical writing. The documents must be in English and you must be the sole author. Each example can be for any technical subject, should be at least one page in length, and should be recent (written within the past 2 years).
General Engineering: Mechanical Engineering Concentration ✓
- Applicants must pass the fundamentals of engineering examination or provide GRE scores.
Mining Engineering ✓
- Applicants are required to submit a resumé.
Interdisciplinary MS ✓

Earth Science & Engineering Ph.D. ✓
- Requires (3) reference letters, each 1 page in length and personally written/typed by references (will not accept the Reference Letter Form).
