Montana Tech Student Awarded Copper Club Scholarship

Steven Piippo, a Montana Tech Mining Engineering student, has been awarded a Copper Club Scholarship for the 2014/2015 school year. The scholarship is awarded by The Copper Club, Inc., which makes contributions, from accumulated excess funds, to causes and educational programs associated with the copper industry.

The Club’s Grants Program assists exceptional students preparing for careers in fields related to maintenance and expansion of the copper industry. The criterion for the Grants, which can be up to $10,000 each, is academic excellence and need of financial assistance. The Copper Club Educational Fund was established in 1994. Since 1998-1999, 11 other Montana Tech students have won this prestigious award. As the award recipient, Piippo will receive $10,000.

Piippo, from Missoula, MT, holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish with a minor in business management from Brigham Young University. Piippo, who worked in a variety of fields over the years, made the decision in 2012 to return to higher education to pursue a degree in Mining Engineering at Montana Tech. He currently works as a teaching assistant in the mining department and will graduate in May of 2016.
