Montana Tech Student Veterans Receive Honor

Veterans making the transition back to students on college campuses can be difficult. In order to help with the transition and to honor these students, Montana Tech hosts regular Veterans Day Luncheons on campus for faculty, staff and students who served in the military, both past and present. The event is sponsored by the Montana Tech Veterans Task Force and Student Services.

This year the Task Force awarded a special Distinguished Student Veteran Award. “We held a great event on campus where we honored a number of outstanding student veterans,” noted Mike Hall, AmeriCorps Veterans Vista. “A special part of the ceremony was when we awarded the first-ever Distinguished Student Veteran Award to two very deserving student veterans.” Montana Tech student veterans, Dexter Richards and Greg Hansen, were the recipients of the award. The campus community nominated 16 students based on the following criteria reliability, initiative, uniqueness of contribution, community and campus services.

With National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day approaching on December 7,, 2014, the Montana Tech Veterans Task Force would like to remind the Butte community that they can make a difference by visiting a veteran during the holidays, at a VA Medical Center, nursing home or private assisted living facility.

“We were thrilled to receive 16 nominations from the campus for our first-ever award,” noted Janet Friesz, Enrollment Services Specialist and Veterans School Certifying Official. “We have outstanding student veteran and I am thrilled we are able to recognize and honor them on campus.
