Montana Tech Celebrates National Student Employment Week and Participates in Student Employee of the Year Program

For the 7th year, Montana Tech celebrates National Student Employment week. On Tuesday, April 12th, Career Services hosted a Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY) recognition ceremony. The event honored Montana Tech students nominated by their on-campus employers for the distinguished award. This year’s nominees Aleesha Aasved, Joel Arbaugh, Shihua Brazill, Trevor Brooks, Spencer Hale, Mykenzie Lachenbruch, Mark Mariano Jr., Joshua Messenger, Alex Reid, and Taylor Winsor.

The 2016 Montana Tech Student Employee of the Year award nominations were critiqued based upon each nominee’s the accomplishments in the areas of Reliability, Initiative, Uniqueness of Contribution, Quality of Work, Professionalism and Community and Campus Service. The winner of the Montana Tech SEOTY award also competed among other Montana institution winners for the State SEOTY award.

The selection committee chose Joshua Messenger for the 2016 campus award. He was nominated by Dr. Chris Gammons, Professor of Geological Engineering, and received a personalized medallion trophy, Montana Tech Bookstore gift certificate and an award certificate signed by Chancellor Donald M. Blackketter and Associate Vice Chancellor Paul Beatty. Joshua’s name will be displayed as the 2016 recipient on the Student Employee of the Year perpetual plaque in the Career Services office.

In addition to many examples of Joshua’s outstanding work, Dr. Gammons stated in the nomination materials, “In my 17 years at Montana Tech, Josh is probably the best Geology 101 GTA we have ever had. Josh's greatest attribute is his fierce commitment to doing an excellent job in anything he does.” A student commented, “Josh welcomed and researched difficult questions with the class. He made himself available for all in-class exercises by surveying individual progress and offered valuable feedback and creative assistance. His style and preparedness highly benefited my education at MT Tech."

Montana Tech will also celebrate National Student Employment Week with daily drawings all week and an ice cream & cake social for all student employees on Wednesday, April 13th at Noon in the Student Union Building.
