Petroleum Engineering Accreditation
The bachelor of science in Petroleum Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org
Our department provides a quality education in Petroleum Engineering that combines theory and practice for undergraduate and graduate students. This education will produce Petroleum Engineers who provide value to employers and society immediately upon graduation and who can grow in the practice of professional engineering. Graduates will be prepared to meet the challenges of well drilling and completion, oil and gas production operations, and reservoir engineering management anywhere in the world. The program will emphasize service to the community and industry, dedication to continuous learning, and high ethical standards.
Program Educational Objectives
The Petroleum Engineering graduates will exhibit proficiencies in the following attributes:
- Execute safe and environmentally sound practices in petroleum engineering applications
- Maintain and improve technical skills through the pursuit of knowledge
- Understand the role of engineers in society and their social and ethical obligations to the profession
- Demonstrate professional communication skills and information sharing across a multi-disciplinary team in diverse environments
Student Outcomes
Attainment of these outcomes prepares graduates to enter the professional practice of engineering.
- an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
- an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
- an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
- an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
- an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
- an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
- an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies
