On Friday, the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation (CMEI) announced a Notice of Intent for up to $100 million to expand America’s critical minerals workforce. The initiative supports President Trump’s agenda to restore U.S. energy dominance, rebuild domestic supply chains, and reduce reliance on foreign adversaries for materials vital to modern energy, manufacturing, and defense technologies. Montana Technological University was an invited guest for the announcement as a key institution educating the next generation of mining engineers. University representatives in attendance included Chancellor Johnny MacLean, Associate Professor Chris Roos, and students Jordan Niggemyer and Michael Shaw.
Ripple: The Center for Education and Ecosystem Studies has concluded their spring field season. Spring is often Ripple’s busiest season, and 2026 was no different. This Spring, Ripple’s team led 8 environmental science education and stewardship initiatives.
Recognizing the transformative impact of emerging technologies on higher education and industry, Montana Technological University has appointed Professor Chad Okrusch, Ph.D. to serve as the university’s first chief artificial intelligence officer. The position is the first of its kind in the Montana University System (MUS).
Access valuable digital databases, maps, atlases, and historical journals of geological and mining resources dating back to the 1800s. Some of our valuable resources, including maps from the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology, are housed only on Montana Tech campus.
The Tech Vision Endowed Scholarship fuels the future of Montana Tech by recruiting the next generation of Orediggers and empowering our current students to succeed. Our goal is to raise $160,000 annually, directly transforming the lives of 50 to 75 students each year.
