Pre-Medicine

You’ll work closely with Montana Tech faculty advisors to schedule pre-med courses and other pre-med requirements. Acquire the grades, biomedical research and other hands-on experiences, volunteer activities, and personalized recommendation letters that will make your medical school application stand out.
The pre-med focus area at Montana Tech is designed to give students the science pre-requisites necessary for acceptance into medical school. Students interested in pursuing a career as a physician typically major in Cellular and Molecular Biology in Biology or the Biochemistry option in Chemistry. M.D. or D.O. degree programs are at the doctoral level and require a B.S. degree to be eligible for admission.

Early Acceptance Pathway to Rocky Vista University Montana College of Osteopathic Medicine
Students at Montana Technological University have an early acceptance pathway to medical school through an agreement with the Rocky Vista University Montana College of Osteopathic Medicine (RVU-MCOM) in Billings.
The Early Acceptance Program will allow undergraduate Montana Tech students who have fulfilled the specified requirements to gain acceptance to RVU-MCOM without taking the MCAT. Students must maintain a science and overall cumulative GPA of 3.5 to be eligible.

Student-Centered
Pre-med majors receive personalized attention from world-class Montana Tech faculty in a close-knit and supportive environment. You can work with faculty on special topics or independent study. You’ll also have opportunities to work side-by-side with them on groundbreaking research, from disease transmission and environmental health to the discovery and characterization of mycobacteriophages (viruses that infect mycobacterial hosts). Montana Tech also offers undergraduate research scholarships for students to pursue their own research interests.
