Welcome!

The Testing Center provides testing services to support the academic and professional goals of students and the community. We are part of the Academic Center for Excellence, which is located in the Student Success Center. We adhere to the Professional Standards and Guidelines set by the National College Testing Association (NCTA). Our center houses seven private testing rooms and a computer lab with ten desktop computers equipped with speakers and webcams - see inside!

Testing Services

CLEP® & HiSET®

Please schedule your appointment through College Level Examination Program® (CLEP) or the High School Equivalency Diploma ® (HiSET).

Accommodated Testing

Students with testing accommodations or who need to makeup a missed exam have the option to test down here in a private room or in our computer lab.

Dual Enrollment

ALEKS PPL Math Placement

Dual Enrollment students must pay our one-time $25 testing fee over the phone at 406-496-4250 and ask for a receipt to be emailed to you. Then, email the receipt to snorthwolfe@mtech.edu with the subject line “ALEKS Dual Enrollment” to receive information to begin your exam.

Please note that a high school ID number and email address is required to make an ALEKS account. If you do not have an ID number, put 00 followed by the last 7 digits of your phone number.

College Success Math and/or Writing Placement

If a student wants to test at Montana Tech, or if a public school official can proctor a College Success placement exam for students, email snorthwolfe@mtech.edu to make arrangements.

Placement Exams

There is a one-time $25 testing fee for placement exams that must be paid on the day of the test or over the phone at 406-496-4250.

Math Placement Exam

If you do not have an ACT or SAT score, credit for a math course from another college or university, or it has been more than two years since you took a math placement test, take a math placement exam. If your degree program requires Calculus, take the ALEKS PPL exam. Otherwise, take the College Success (CS) exam.

Writing Placement Exam

If you do not have an ACT or SAT score, credit for a writing course from another college or university, or it has been more than two years since you took a writing placement test, take the College Success (CS) exam.

Important! ALEKS PPL is the only placement exam offered online. Students who need to take a College Success exam but are not local are encouraged to someone willing to proctor their exam (ex. staff member of a local college or library) and email sgoodell@mtech.edu once someone is found for instructions.
