The Construction Technology program at Highlands College of Montana Tech have formal and informal agreements with not-for-profit 501 (c) 3 organizations to make Butte and the surrounding area a better place. 

Student Built Home Construction 

Our students will participate in the construction of a new 3-bedroom, 2-bath 1,400 square feet home. Students will be involved in every aspect of construction. 

• Floor, wall, and roof framing
• Installation of windows and doors
• Roofing and siding installation
• Assist in estimating and scheduling the project
• Assist in hiring and overseeing subcontractors
• Installation of insulation
• Drywall-installation and finish
• Interior trim and cabinet installation
• Interior and exterior painting
• Installation of flooring and tile

National Affordable Housing Network 

• Assist with siding installation 
• Concrete slab prep

Butte Community Ice Center 

• Perform various projects to continually improve the facility 
• Installation of metal wainscotting 
• Wall and window protection in practice room
• Construct and install a ramp and platform for wheelchair access

Kiwanis Club Sunshine Camp

• Sound dampening project in main activity room 

Service Learning Model

The Construction Technology program believes that through an all-day blended apprenticeship/college coursework model, students gain working knowledge to improve quality of life for disadvantaged neighbors or creating safe community spaces utilizing the skill-sets learned in the classroom and lab to make their city a better place to live. 

Exit Early with Certificate of Applied Science

Completion of the first two semesters may result in a certificate of applied sciences in carpentry. 

Opportunities to Become Management

Completion of this program will put graduates on track to complete Montana Tech’s Business, Construction Management Track, B.A.S. program.
