Veterans Lounge Open House at Highlands College

Highlands College will hold an Open House for its new Veterans Lounge space on Wednesday, February 13th from 10 am to 1 pm. This dedicated space is intended to be a place where the college’s military veterans can go to relax, chat with other veterans, use computers, study, etc.

“We are proud of our students who are veterans,” said Cricket Pietsch, the Counselor for Highlands College. “We want them to know that we value them and that we are ready to provide them all the support we have available. They’ve earned it and we are here for them.”

With the ending of the war in Iraq and the winding down of the war in Afghanistan, large numbers of veterans will be returning home to jobs or to go to college. Montana Tech has specifically prepared itself to help veterans who choose to go to college. Among other things, Tech has three Veterans Certifying Officials/Education Benefits Specialists. Additionally, Montana Tech has earned the status of a “Veteran Friendly” university. Tech is also in the process of readying dedicated space for its North Campus veterans.

“There are many ways to serve our country,” said Dr. John M. Garic, Dean of Highlands College. “But those who served in the military have served our country in particularly strong and personal ways. I hope the dedication of this Veterans Lounge, in some small way, helps our veterans to be successful students.”
