Montana Tech Purchases Building in Billings for MBMG

Montana Tech has purchased an office building in downtown Billings, MT. The building will house the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology (MBMG). The MBMG has rented office space on the campus of Montana State University-Billings for the past 15 years. The purchase of the building was approved by the Montana Board of Regents at their November meeting.

The approximately 6,026 square foot building is located at 107 Grand Avenue. Plans are in the process to move into the new space by March 31. The Billings Office currently has nine professional staff members along with several students from MSU-Billings and Rocky Mountain College who will work in the building. The Billings office of the MBMG addresses geologic and hydrogeologic issues throughout central and eastern Montana including energy development, agriculture/irrigation, and ground water availability. The MBMG currently has projects in every county in Montana; the Billings Office typically conducts projects in the central and eastern counties.

“We have greatly benefited from our relationship with MSU-Billings and will certainly continue employing students, but plans for expansion of the campus necessitated our move,” noted John Metesh, director of the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology.
