Montana Tech Ranked by U.S. News for Online Graduate Engineering Programs

U.S. News and World Report released their 2014 Best Online Education Program Rankings today. Montana Tech, the only Montana university named, landed on the list of Best Online Graduate Engineering Programs. For the 2014 Best Online Graduate Engineering Programs rankings, U.S. News decreased the emphasis on peer reputation and admissions selectivity while increasing the weights of student engagement, faculty credentials and training, and student services and technology.

“We are delighted that our distance graduate programs are again ranked highly,” noted Dr. Bev Hartline, vice chancellor for research and dean of the Graduate School at Montana Tech. “The faculty work hard to keep these programs at the top, so that they serve working professionals and their employers extraordinarily well. Montana Tech’s distance graduate programs provide great opportunities for individuals seeking deeper expertise and advancement in project management, health care informatics, or industrial hygiene. They attract students from around the country and world, helping them progress in their careers.”

Montana Tech offers two online graduate engineering programs: Industrial Hygiene Distance Learning/Professional Track and Project Engineering & Management (MPEM). The ABET-accredited master’s program in Industrial Hygiene Distance Learning/Professional Track enables working professionals to earn their graduate degrees without leaving their jobs. The web-based non-thesis curriculum includes not only the traditional IH rubrics but also a safety core and completion of a research-based IH report. One on-campus component is required–the laboratory section of the Sampling and Evaluation of Health Hazards course. The Project Engineering Management master’s degree is a web-based non-thesis curriculum that helps working engineers advance into management. The 30-credit program covers three areas: advanced engineering applications, industrial and management engineering, and business and organizational management. Each course meets weekly in a virtual classroom for lectures, questions, and discussion.
