Hazen Research, Inc., an employee-owned firm performing industrial research and development for clients in the mineral, chemical, energy, and environmental fields, donated $35,000 to Montana Tech. The gift will be used to establish the Hazen Research Professorship of Extractive Metallurgy in the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department at Montana Tech.
“The intent of the Hazen Research Professorship is to provide summer salary and additional support for research-related expenses to a faculty member in the Metallurgical & Materials Engineering Department that is involved with the Material Science PhD program,” said Doug Abbott, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Abbott further noted, “The recipient of the Hazen Research Professorship will be involved in activities that will benefit Montana Tech’s students, at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The campus is very appreciative of Hazen Research’s generosity.”
“Hazen Research Inc. is very pleased to be able to establish the Hazen Research Professorship of Extractive Metallurgy at Montana Tech,” explained Nick Hazen, President of Hazen Research, Inc. “The main objective of the professorship is to provide support for a faculty member to conduct research in extractive metallurgy, to create increased excitement among graduate and undergraduate students in this discipline, and to train and educate students who seek a career in the extractive metallurgy industry.”
