Adam Hawks, a senior in the Professional and Technical Communication Department at Montana Tech, recently completed a recruitment video for the Silver Bow Fire Council. Hawks worked with Dave Kneebone, Director of Training for the Silver Bow Fire Council, to develop the video to show on air, at community fairs and events, at high schools, and other places to encourage people to join their local volunteer fire department.
"I am pleased to have assisted Mr. Dave Kneebone and our community to help promote our friends in the volunteer fire service,” explained Hawks. “These men and women work tirelessly and risk their lives, for zero income, to protect our families and our children from harm. I am pleased to have worked alongside Professor Nicholas Hawthorne and the rest of the Montana Tech Professional and Technical Communications department in the development of this film."
The goal of the film was to talk about the family of the department, becoming a part of a larger community through the volunteer firefighters. Dave Kneebone, Director of Training for the Silver Bow Fire Council, explained, “We are thrilled to have this video as a tool we can use to educate our community. We are neighbors, friends, and colleagues who work to protect our community each and every day. With this project, we are showcasing the heart and soul of the Silver Bow County Fire Service. We greatly appreciate Adam’s work and can’t thank him enough for the final product.”
Hawks completed the video and two candle safety public service announcements for his senior capstone project as part of his graduation requirements. "Adam Hawks hit the ground running on this project alongside Dave Kneebone,” noted Nick Hawthorne, Assistant Professor in the Technical Communication Department at Montana Tech. “It has been rewarding to serve as Adams mentor for this project and to see the development and translation from paper to screen in the past months."
