Brazilian Students to Speak at Highlands College

Highlands College is continuing its “Passport To ….  Program” with a celebration of the country of Brazil. The celebration, sponsored by Highlands College, is scheduled for Monday, October 27th from 11:30-12:30 in the Highlands College Commons. Pizza will be served to those students, faculty and staff who attend the presentation.

Scheduled to speak at Wednesday’s Passport To… event are Brazilian students: Thaiza Costa  E Silva and Joao Oliveria. They will speak about their country and their lives there.

“It feels to me as if Brazil is one of those countries about which most Americans know so little,” said Dr. John M. Garic, Dean of Highlands College. “I am looking forward to our Passport to Brazil event and, along with our students, faculty and staff, enjoying learning more about Brazil.”

Brazil, officially the Federative Republic of Brazil, is the largest country in both South America and the Latin American region. It is the world's fifth largest country, both by geographical area and by population. It is the largest Portuguese-speaking country in the world. This past summer, Brazil hosted the 2014 World Cup in football (soccer).
