A growing enrollment trend continues at Montana Tech with the campus experiencing the largest headcount in its history. Overall headcount is up 22 students at 2,945 this fall compared to 2,923 in fall 2013. The 2014 class at Montana Tech is from 55 Montana counties, 42 states, and 24 foreign countries.
“We are pleased to see students choosing Montana Tech in record numbers to further their education,” noted Montana Tech Chancellor Don Blackketter. “Not only is our enrollment up on campus, but the average ACT score for our freshman class increased. I believe this is because Montana Tech is an outstanding choice for students looking for a wonderful collegiate experience and a great return on their educational investment.”
Freshman students are in abundance on the campus this fall with the number of first-time traditional freshman increasing by 22 students. Montana Tech’s Freshman Engineering Program (FEP), which launched this semester, has 249 students enrolled. An entry point for every first-year engineering student, the FEP enables incoming students with an interest in engineering to be exposed to a broad range of general disciplines without declaring a specific major in their freshman year.
On the North Campus, petroleum engineering continues to be the largest discipline with 378 students followed by general engineering at 202, nursing at 187, and business 166. Graduate School numbers also grew by 28 and the Materials Science Ph.D. program has four doctoral students.
At Highlands College, the largest disciplines are associate of science with 265 students followed by radiologic technology 52, and metals fabrication/machining/welding with 41.
Montana Tech’s Jump Start program also experienced growth going from 267 in fall 2013 to 275 currently.
