Day of Service for Butte's Emergency Food Bank

On Tuesday, April 5th, 2016, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, AmeriCorps National Service members and partner organizations will carry out a day of service to benefit Butte’s Emergency Food Bank. In celebration of the Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service, we’ll be weatherizing the Butte Food Bank building, collecting Food Bank items at Butte’s grocery stores, and planting seeds for the Food Bank’s garden plot.

The Butte Emergency Food Bank operates with the intention that no individual or family in the community experiences the fear and pain of hunger. Each year they distribute about 1,200,000 pounds of food--canned goods; boxed and bagged food; baby food and formula, diapers, and baby products; milk; bread and bakery items; meat and more--to Butte area residents, about 2,800 people each month. County Executive Matt Vincent will work alongside AmeriCorp members, community volunteers, Food Bank staff and volunteers to highlight the impact of community service in Butte in celebration of Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service.

The day of service will run from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Butte Emergency Food Bank (1019 East 2nd Street) and from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at NCAT (3040 Continental Drive). Volunteers will also be collecting food at Walmart, the two Safeway locations, Stokes, Three Bears and Hennessey Market from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
