NIOSH Training Project Grant (TPG)

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), a division of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, has awarded Montana Technological University (Montana Tech) a Training Project Grant (TPG) with the primary emphasis on student scholarships.

The 1970 Occupational Safety and Health Act established NIOSH as a research agency focused on studying worker safety and health, and empowering employers and workers to create safe and healthy workplaces. Montana Tech's SHIH programs are directly related to the NIOSH mission by providing quality graduates to help fill the United States' public health gap. The NIOSH supported TPGs offer a key role in meeting this mandate and contributing to the Institute's core mission of providing national and world leadership to prevent workplace illnesses and injuries.

Scholarships offered through the NIOSH TPG are available to Safety, Health, and Industrial Hygiene (SHIH) students enrolled in our Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Master of Science degree in Industrial Hygiene, or Master of Science degree in Industrial Hygiene Distance Learning / Professional Track programs. Approximately 32 students are supported per academic year.

To be eligible for a Montana Tech NIOSH TPG scholarship, a student must be a citizen or a noncitizen national of the U.S. or be lawfully admitted for permanent residence at the time of appointment; be currently enrolled in a SHIH degree program, and have a GPA of at least 3.0. Merit, financial need, and diversity are all considered when awarding scholarships. Scholarship applications are available in June of each academic year.
