All Montana Tech inventions must be reviewed by the Patent Management Committee prior to filing a non-provisional patent. Use of any University funds to file patents (including IDC funds) requires completion of the steps outlined. All patent applications will be filed by a University-approved lawyer, with the Director of Technology Transfer working as a liaison between the inventor and the lawyer.
The inventor is responsible for providing requested technical files to the Director of Technology Transfer, who will then act as the University interface and point of contact with University-approved patent lawyers. Failure to provide the Director of Tech Transfer with necessary files may result in forfeiture of the patent and/or ineligibility to participate in sponsored awards at MTU.
Before proceeding, all inventors should review our Policies. Montana Tech faculty and staff that continue in this process acknowledge they have read and understood these policies, and agree to them.
