Prospector Hall at Montana Tech
Prospector Hall was the first campus residence hall and opened when the institution was known as the Montana School of Mines. Completed in 1935 during the presidency of Francis A Thomson, it originally housed 110 students, as well as a house mother, proctors, instructors, and guests. As the needs of the University evolved over the years, so did Prospector Hall. Prospector now houses approximately 200 first-year students and is the home of the Office of Residence Life.

Prospector has amenities including a community kitchen, free laundry facilities, a TV lounge, and computers available for student use. Students receive their mail at the building's reception desk, and cleaning supplies and additional services are also available there. The entire building has Wi-Fi access which students may access through their campus network accounts. Prospector Hall is made up of four floors and does not have elevator access. Students needing accommodations are encouraged to note this on their housing applications.
